'More money for me and my cats': Overworked and underpaid employee triumphantly throws in the towel, finding a higher paying job and leaving his exploitative boss in a lurch

Overworked employees are always under-appreciated. They slave every day and pour their hearts into their job but receive little praise, never see a cash bonus, and usually have to watch their boss take all the credit for their work. Wouldn't it be nice if hard work actually equated to success like we were always told? In this case, one man who had basically built the most profitable department at his company, was highly specialized in his field and an invaluable asset to his company. His 'friend' and longtime coworker got picked for a promotion to run the department and quickly backslid into evil-boss territory.

After the big bad boss took over, she started stealing OP's ideas and running him ragged with responsibilities that should have fallen on her desk. Even as OP was begging for assistance and more employees in their office, he was denied and forced to work even more. To compensate for working overtime, OP asked for a raise or a promotion to make it worth it and corporate denied his request.
